We honor the Palestinians not only for surviving their catastrophes but also for their resistance.

Just like mothers, no matter what I do, say, or yell from the top of my lounges, it is not going enough. All what I do is never going be enough to repay the honor of belonging to Palestine.

Just like mothers, the Palestinian people resist, struggle, cry, hope, build and rebuild, and pray for better well-being every year and every day. They try and exhaust all options in the effort of returning the life that they had prior to 1948.

Considering the turnaround of events over the past 60 years nothing seems impossible. It was just 60 years ago when the Jews/Israeli settlers were deported from their home lands to the ‘promised land’. Those people were expelled from Europe and instead of fighting back for their right of return to their homes; they invaded the Arab’s land. Considering how the illegal settlement has turned into a structured country within sixty years, I don’t see why not the legitimate owners of the land (Palestinians) cannot go back. It is all a matter of time, and a matter of political events turning around.

Today I am not writing to be sorry and to shed a tear. I am just writing to remember all the under privileged children in Palestine. All the sick without health care. All the children stripped out of their right to play and feel safe. Every young Palestine eager to learn and go to school, or what is remaining of it. And to all the under privileged people in Gaza…

Parking in Amman...

I came across this short film for Amin Matalqa. The sound was coming from somewhere between my bed and my desk.

Four rings later, I started to lose my patience, and started flipping everything up-side- down, in search for my wireless phone handset. It was not under the 3 decorative pillows, not under my cover, not under my pile of papers on the desk. I know it is my father who is calling for his daily check up, and to make sure we are alive and sound. It is okay if I miss it, I can always call back.

Back to my telephone, I gave up, and decided to check in one last place, under my bed. There it was, all the way next to the wall. Determinant to get hold of the telephone, I squished myself under the bed to get hold of the phone. As I finally got my hand on it, the ringing stopped, and within the split of a second, my cell phone was ringing (classic). AHHH, damn it baba is fast at doing this.

At this point, I tried to quickly pull myself out, get up, and reach for the phone on the night lamp, within 3 seconds. My plan did not consider the wiring festival going on on my bed. I had my phone charger connected, head phones, and laptop charger. The last one was hanging too low, that it caught up with my big hair bun. My hair has not been my friend lately. Too frustrated to deal with its shortness around my face, I pull it all up in a bun on top of my head. A bun big enough to get caught in the wiring job, as I was swinging my head away toward my cell phone, specifically my hair was caught in my laptop’s wire. If this description was graphic enough for you, you would guess by now what happens next. My LAPTOP was thrown on the ground. I was speechless. My cell phone stopped ringing (another classic moment).

What good is my phone with its cool camera if my laptop, God forbids, is broken now. I broke the silence, and grabbed my laptop, crossed my legs, and with wide open eyed I opened it as it was slammed (closed) when it fell off the bed.

I pressed the power button, and boy. Was I glad to hear the Windows tune again! Not only that, but my files were still all running, no lost data. I never loved my old dusty laptop as much I do now.

This experience (almost losing my laptop) reminded me of how dependent I am on this machine, and how it deserves to be named after all these times of service. No. I don’t think I will go this far. I will stick to the promise of unconditional love, and a promise to take more care of it. Oh, and to be a more loyal PC user and stop thinking about considering switching to a slim Mac notebook.

Do you have a name for your laptop? I know some people do!

a BLACKOUT

Gaza is enduring its FOURTH cold day, and fourth cold night.
Light a candle. They had a rather interesting ad that featured a dark skinned teen, wearing a baseball cap flipped to the back of his head, and FULL of 12-years-old-boy attitude. I remember him saying in a Saudi accent;
"أنا بتكلم عربي. أنا بدرس بالعربي. وبحلم عربي. ودحين، أنا بشوف كرتون بالعربي!"
Just like that, hundreds of Egyptian actors and actresses were blessed with new jobs dubbing Disney's cartoon movies and some other Disney shows.

Today, as most of you Blogger users, I read the announcement of launching Blogger in Arabic, Hebrew, and Persian.

"Besides localizing the Blogger interface into these three languages, we have right-to-left templates and have added new tool bar buttons for bi-directional text editing in the post editor."

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_I-5UoMhfOh0/R5OQErgTszI/AAAAAAAAAEs/j5Ct_q1tueA/s400/Blogarabia.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5157624408341459762" />

"The effort was worth it, however, and we’re tremendously happy to be a part of the growing Arabic-, Hebrew-, and Persian-language blogging communities."

This is not an unexpected move at all, considering the growth of the blogging community in the Middle East area. This comes as a classic market respond case.

What I intended to rant about today is this Arabic Blogger is going to introduce us to other enlighten minds, that happened to speak the Arabic language. With all do respect to the Arabic blogging community, your strong existence on the "blog-sphere" is not solely due to the fact that you are more educated, or more interesting than the rest of the world. This strong existence is solely due to the privilege of speaking the English language, which has made the blogging process easier for you than the rest of the off-line community. I admit that my experience in blogging is very limited, and is still very young. But I have been around to see that most of the English Jordanian blogs are read by other Jordanians, who happen to speak the language. Blogger will provide a more independent voice for this segment, as most of the Arabic operated blogs I read, at least during my blogging life, are part of influential entities such as Imad Hajjaj's blogs or al-Jazeera's blogs.
I am very ecstatic about reading about political issues and social trend from a very different point of view. Especially looking forward for reading more Jordanian blogs with a fresh perspective.

Citizens of the world...UNITE

This came on TV last night at 10-esh pm. This is why we cry when hear some songs, and why we wish those songs were sung for us at the first place. I know almost every girl wants to be Delilah...no? I am sure you have your song then...
via Hareega

Hey There Delilah

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_I-5UoMhfOh0/R4qHnrgTsxI/AAAAAAAAAEc/cJLUzp5Cgr0/s320/daleela.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5155081839241835282" />

Story: A guy meets a girl who happens to be a runner, and asks her out, she was already in a relationship so she turned him down. He made up a song to express how much he loved her. Watch the Olympic Games this summer, you might see Delilah DiCrescenzo running in the 800-meter competitions. A love song not inspired by a love story.

How to Save a Life

Story: This young man was working as a mentor for troubled teenagers. One of them had a behavioral problem that could not be solved by his family members and therapists. This inspired the young man from the Fray to come up with "How To Save a Life"

My take: this might be a really popular song, but even if it was not, every time I hear it I could not help it but choke thinking about all the injusticed kids, all the hungry kids, and all those abused kids from every society sector and every color. The song tickles my mind, and remind me that I can not too just turn my face and pretend it does not exist. Not even for a moment.

Step one you say we need to talk

He walks you say sit down it's just a talk

He smiles politely back at you

You stare politely right on through

Some sort of window to your right

As he goes left and you stay right

Between the lines of fear and blame

And you begin to wonder why you came......

Last first day...at least for now

Monday was my last first day of a semester. The instant and most surfacing motive to the killing per many sources is her refusal to wear the ‘Hijab’ or the traditional Islamic headscarf which has led her father to snap...and KILL his own daughter.
This is a case of domestic violence, which always re-occurs in what seems like a peaceful town like Mississauga. It is not a case of oppression of Islamic traditions for women, and most importantly, it is not a Muslim life style issue.
The case is purely an issue of violence against women, and a case of poor guidance toward integration for new Canadian families.
Aqsa was failed by the school system, and by the Muslim community centers in Mississauga to guide her and her family through their ordeal. Our MANY mosques and community centers are failing many young Muslim Canadians by not teaching them how to integrate and interact with this new society to them or their parents, without losing their identity. Aqsa has lived a double life as a Hijabi at home, and as a more ‘Westernized version’ at school. Not being able to achieve a balance of both, has led to clash with her family, just like many young Muslim Canadians. *I have seen this happen in Jordan and Saudi, Idont recall someone being killed over it!*
I am NOT trying to defend the father, simply because nothing JUSTIFIES the killing of his OWN child. I am also not trying to blame our Islamic Centers, as they are always lacking the resources for most similar projects. But I can not help it but think how things would have been different if some kind of counseling was seeked by the school, the family, or the child who was killed.

My rushed version of posts

To avoid writing multipe posts, and to avoid spending more time on my computer, and as I really really need some fresh air, been needing that since Saturday morning, I will put out my rambles in point form...(why is this becomming a trend?)

Is there such a thing as coffe rehab? There should be. I have been trying to reduce my coffe consumption for 3 days now. I am down to 6-7 cups a day, plus some tea. Any tips regarding my addition?

I have been in a testing/assignmenting process for two days , even after finishing all school related work. boooh

This other non-school work is SOOOOO BORING. I change my mind, I take it back, I want to stay unemployed if this is how it is going to be. Orientations were very boring, and above all, too easy to make me bother regarding picking the right choice, or circuling true and false....

My mom is visiting..so YAAAAY

My mom is visiting. and on another note, I have to prepare for the ceremoney by doing the following: clean the house ceiling to floor, clean HER car, wash all the beddings, finish the 3 weeks worth of laundry, grocerize (hate hate hate grocery shopping), make sure my clothest is in tip top shape....Ah I thought I am supposed to be vacationing

I really really really wanna see some x-mass decorations. I really wanna finish this post and go check out Square One shopping centre. I envy all those worry-free teenagers walking around with their red, white and green coulored shopping bags, so happy about their purchases. I can not go any longer (almost 45 days) without going to the mall.

I FINALLY watched American Gangster. Thank you F for making sure I make it on Friday. A PROPER movie review is to follow, but for now, I have to say it is a 6.5/10

I want to strat reading my novel. I have been in restoration mood for two days. This means that I fall asleep on the couch the minute; the tempreture reaches 25 c, my brother stop talking to me, or the minute I start gazing at a document that is not displayed on my laptop (i.e. books and magazines).
Yes. something like what grandpa Simpson does :(

I hate emotional roller coasters. Even the funny ones. I get headaches afterward, which is not good for my coffe addition...

I am going to use Areal from now on on this blog. My prof actually penalized me for using TNR instead of Arial on my presentation.

I have to go to Homedepot tonight. I hate hate hate Homedepot. But the light fixture which I bought is not going to hang itself. I have been waiting since October 2006 (yes that long) for it to be hanged by itself, or by brother. I give up. I need ligh in the guest room now

I exactly have 18 hours to do all of what I said above before mom arrives.

Ps: my mom is a really lovely lady. She is not scary at all. However, she is for some reason obsessed with order, and neat houses. Above all that, she has a sense of humour which feeds off stories about her kids. Walking into our house as is, will give her comedy matatrials for a month to come. No thanx, i will do my chorse on a short notice instead.

I miss my mom beyond anything I can describe, I love her too. Above all, I love the goodies she is bringing in her suit case from Jeddah and Amman.

I just realized that you would not have needed to read this if only I can find my cell phone and call someone to ramble out all of this, but I missed my blog. I promise some real articles SOON!

November...

If anything...this month is the month that was stolen from my life.

I have spent it on my kitchen table with my laptop and endless stacks of papers and textbooks. Weather you are being approached or asked for "reference" about someone in specific, and most creepy when you are asked to refer someone you know to complete stranger. i have to admit it is the creepiest when you are approached...

I think many Arabs out there are thankful for Facebook as it saves them a lot of effort as it allows a good "preview" of the possible bride to be. If the dude and his "KHATABE" are lucky, the girl would have an open public profile, or at least close picture of her face available for the public. Then, they can through her list of friends "investigate" if their circle of friends and her circle of friends are connected at some point through a common person (a common girlfriend is the best alternative) THEN an opportunity to approach the candidate rises !

I am serious. A lot of moms out there are behind the monitor browsing through the pictures on Facebook for possible candidate who they will contact her to arrange for when they can come over an have a cup of coffee with the family.

For some people, they go the extra step on signing in into their daughters accounts, go through their profiles and their friends profiles and "help" those nice guys out there finding there perfect bride. Their daughter's accounts has got to have some "listed friends" who are recently graduate Arab females, hopefully not yet spoken for and who are not looking to do any post-grad studies. Hey, you can even filter your search at Facebook by region and by university lol

On the other hand some men, do not put there loved ones through such trouble, because, and I quote some random dude from Montreal " It is easier and sometimes easier on the pocket (cheaper) to find a bride from back home and bring her to live here"

Personally, I made my peace with this, and know that there is nothing I can do, I sometimes even give up, and put up a good word for a girl who I knew. But most of the time I pretend I don't know this person and save myself from any future headaches and such

I don't understand, why can't the guys who are looking for a partner just approach those girls. Get to know them, and then maybe start something. I am sure most of them does not even trust someone else's taste in shirts. Why is it alright to marry based on someone else's taste?

This topic has been coming up a lot in my conversations, as my Facebook list of friends was recently investigated.

A universal trend in November

Lately, every single person I talk to, whether here in Canada or back in Arabia is BORED to death.
I usually turn to the Internet and blogs when I give up on my people in real life. I hated it so much that in years 1 and 2 when I had to take it I took revengue by memorizing everything in the book just to get that IN-YOUR-FACE-accounting-course feeling. I have to admit, I get sick by looking at simple balance sheets and income statements. Now, in four year, after a year and a half of no accounting, my prof thought it might be fun to live the old days. I thought some of the readers might like to introduce it to their children. You should, this portal is educational and fun :)

Planet <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 />Orange is a website which advocates financial literacy and teaches children the importance of saving and financial planning at an appropriate level for their age. ING Direct got the inspiration to start this portal from customers’ emails requesting information on how to teach their children about financial planning. According to ING Direct this website supports its vision of “leading America back to savings”. Planet Orange acts as a resourceful tool for parents, teaches and children and young adults to realize the need of learning and discussion the topic of personal financing which opens the door to personal financing education at homes and at schools.

The winner of Financial Literacy Award website has a children-friendly design and layout that introduce users to a fun, simple, yet very educational experience. It also offers a level of sophistication that connects with parents and teachers.

The website has a dynamic structure and allows interactivity through two main characters, Cedric and Amy, who guide the user to different sections (continents) of the website. In each section, children are faced with a financial situation similar to what they could face in life such as unexplained loss of money without budgeting.

Just a thought: Why did not I have something like this growing up? I was so bad with personal finance as a teenager to the degree that my dad had to set down and have a talk with me about my debit card usage. His exact words were: "Dana, baba, ATMs are different from a Pac-man machine or a video games where you play and win redeemable coupons. You see baba, you don't win the money, truth is I WORK FOR IT."

3arabi mkasar...broken arabic

This is what happens to kids who move between an Arabic speaking nation to an English/French one (my beloved Canada) and back to Arabia again in less than 4 years!

A message on Facebook from sister #1
how ru ?
sistarr u forget u has a family in za desaert livin iam talkin like ma bio teacher no serizly iam startin to loosing all mine english so calle me or ill stop talkin english.SERIOSLY I MISSED HOW IS ZA NORTH POLE (she means toronto) ZA DESERT IS HOT AND BORIN (she means Jeddah) NO NOT JUST HOT I CAN FRIES EGGZ ON THE HEAD OF ME ...CALL IAM LOOSIN MINE MIND.

A text from sister #2
I earlier told her ed3eele because I have a midterm. and tell mama to make Du3a
She replies as I was receiving my exam booklet:
"I hope that everything you ed3eed for yourself comes true"

The first one was joking and being silly, the second one was not :S
However, the first one insists on saying EJLEYING instead of washing the dishes, because it is easier to use one word. When is your midterm anyways ( my eye brow is half way through an arch)
US: next week! on Thursday!
Prof: NEXT WEEK. Well we have not covered actual chapters materials to carry a midterm. We have to do someting aboot this (yes he says ABOOT).
I have to mention that last week was week 6 of the program, we should have covered 5 chapters by now. We only covered 1.5 actual chapters. The two hours lecture is spread between talking about his adventures in some deserted university in the Pacific and another deserted university in BC, as a professor.
US: at this point some of us were about to freak out,,,most of us were about to burst in laugh
Prof: well, I guess a take home exam would be a good idea
US: we've never done one before. What would be the format?
Prof: I will let you know soon. I just thought of that now!
ahhhhhhh....

Another prof was asked when he would hand out a specific assignment...his answer was..and I qoute " I will give it to you in a future week". What does that mean, can I ever say I will hand you my work in a future date, what is that supposed to mean?
He also was not sure about the number of chapters we have covered. I sure didnt know neither.

How worried should I be at this point?

WE OWN THE NIGHT

It has been a while since a good mafia/gangster/police movie came out. scheme='http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#' term='misadventures'/>
Be ware of symbolism..

Have you ever wore a piece of clothing or accessory and reflected a statement which you did not realize at the time? Not even once?

Well, I thought I knew it all and never thought I will fall in a similar situation at this point of my life..BUT I did.

Here is the story. Last year I received a gift from my lovely neighbor who has Irish roots.

"It is a traditional Irish ring, it is called a Claddagh ring, I were it, my daughters were it and I thought I want you to have this" She said. " This ring was passed down to me by my mother, and its design reflects love, friendship, and loyalty. I truly feel this way about our friendship, I want you to have it because I think of you as an adopted granddaughter".

I really think it is one of the coolest gifts I received, its meaningful, it has a retro design, it is almost antique, and I love rings!

Recently, I decided to read more about this traditional ring. and here is what I found about the symbolism of it;

The way that a Claddagh ring is worn on the hand is usually intended to convey the wearer's romantic availability, or lack thereof. Traditionally, if the ring is on the right hand with the heart facing outward and away from the body, this indicates that the person wearing the ring is not in any serious relationship, and may in fact be single and looking for a relationship: "their heart is open." When worn on the right hand but with the heart facing inward toward the body, this indicates the person wearing the ring is in a relationship, or that "someone has captured their heart". A Claddagh worn on the left hand ring finger, facing outward away from the body, generally indicates that the wearer is engaged. When the ring is on the left hand ring finger and facing inward toward the body, it generally means that the person wearing the ring is married. soucre: Wikipedia

This ring is like an Irish DEBLEH!
To all those who have possibly seen me wearing the ring lately. Not mentioning that I have not wrote anything in here for few months. I can’t point out the reason to that. Well, tonight feels like a time I should come back and document few things, especially on the night before my birthday.

First of all, why on Earth do I lie about my age? It is such a bad habit that got into me. So far my aunts and my little cousins, along with some of not-so-close family friends THINK that I am turning 21 tomorrow.

What I like most about my birthday is that it comes round in the summer. This means I always get to have my family around. Add to that the weekend factor, and it is the best time ever to grow up.

Well that is all I have to say now. I am off to start preparing for my b-day tom.

PS: this blog needs a lot of ‘renovating’ which I will get around this week. So unbelievably RUDE.
I was at my uncles office visiting not too long ago ( yes I am nice plus I needed help on a matter) and a client, who looks 26-28 years was in his office discussing a product offered by the bank. This DUDE'S annoying ringtoon broke the constant relaxing almost silent sound of the cold AC - which was my afternoon easier- and my uncles conversation. This made us both look with a raised eyebrow (well only me). I raised my other eyebrow when this man carried on with his conversation, then squeezed my eyes at him to reflect my disapproval (of course he didn't see that as he was really busy) checked 3ammo's reaction (Neutral) and then gave up. I decided to catch on observing clients waiting outside and on tellers counters through the huge glass window.
Last week, I was at a clinic with a friend, and this time, a doctor distracted the conversation/diagnoses to answer a phone call form a friend on his mobile!! afterward he started bragging about the WASTA he has and how it helped his son into engineering school!!!
Thats one more thing I hate. Too much bragging!
PS: I didn't mention WASTA because I think I can live in Amman or Saudi without it. Although I hate it a little

Jordanita

I have been disconnected and in the country for a week now. Longest time in my life spent offline...I am loving Amman in May...never experienced it before (some might disagree considering the weather we have had this week) bs wallah I am
here is a list of things that cracked me up, raised an eyebrow..or things I have missed this week

I miss my family who didn't come to amman yet

I miss my cousin 3eso who I miss his Jordan 101 lectures and notes so much

I love my cousin who took me to JUST university to spend a night there. IRBID is one of the weirdest places on this planet! All girls dorms are way weirder and dont get me started on the accent. I think I am gonna visit IRBIDITA again this summer. JUST people are pieces of work bs.

My God the road to JUST was so beautiful. i LOVE jordan in the spring

How disrespectful people can be, answering their cell phones in clinics and offices and before saying EXCUSE ME. UGH I hate those people

Endless arageel nights (love)

Visiting Wild Jordan ( new place to unwind, love, cant believe I am just discovering that place)

........the list goes on

I miss blogging

Duct tape forever

God bless duct tape!

There is a deep connection between North Americans and duct tape. Recently I began to understand the laws of attraction to this AMAZING product. I really find it extremely handy and strong, heck you can use it to even bully your little/big brother an tape him to the wall.

I have actually seen cars duct taped!! crappy old rusty cars from the 80s driven by student.

To those who are not familiar with duct tape, it is this fiber based water resistant silvery tape intended to be used in the military as a quick fixing tools, well during the second WW, but now is used manly in pluming and bullying....and amusing people like me.
If I am not mistaken, my parents used it during the gulf war to seal the windows and doors of our apartment against possible chemical attacks. A part of my childhood I don't like to remember!
One more use of duct tape is in fashion. I have seen on TV how they use duct tape on models, under the clothes, to suck tummies and other defaults. Yes..Yes it does work and it holds. The beauty is how it is tailored made to fix what ever default in your body...not like we you have any ;)
ahhh...the endless wonders of duct tape....it is does perform miracles...it is actually called Jesus tape in some parts of the world...you know for the miracles it performs...I am serious

I think I am being overly emotional here..but I think I want to pack one in and take it with me...you know...just to be ready for emergencies during my vacation in Amman (cant think of any now)
What horrible parents this kido has!

NORMALIZATION

Finally I am done exams safe and sound. A555555
Life is good without my exams and without my continuous disappointment in profs, marks, assignment, people from school, and the popular blogging topic Timmy's roll ups. I loved having my cup of goodness today without knowing there is another failure waiting for the last sip to happen...

Although I miss the exams rush ( just a bit).. I am enjoying life again! I forgot how good it it to catch up with friends on things other than GPAs and assignments.

I have missed on so much. I have missed writing up about Jenin and the massacre on this space although I owe to it. plus I awaited April to send a salute to its heroes who made me proud to belong to that old city. Proud to be associated with its history.

I didn't let the world to know how my heart ached for those who died two weeks ago at Virginia Tech..... and how it hurt even more to watch the world's arrogance stance on the value of the Iraqi lives that was lost in the same week.

Many ups and downs took charge of my life in the past two weeks.....made me appreciate all the little blessings even more.

I really don't know why I am posting that. I mean I am not Larry King to explain my absence..right? I guess you have figured by now that i am not even close

maybe this my first step in regaining myself.....

PS: i don't blame you if you don't get all the way here. and i don't blame you if you got here and you are bored to death

Love bites

I am currently giving a shelter for this cat...who thinks that love bites...therefore he wont stop biting me
Seriously, I never thought I would be blogging about pets since I kind of took an oath not to get any after losing my old dear cat. But when you have a brother like mine...everything is possible. This cat will stay with us for three weeks. He already made himself at home and went through all my stuff.
Kitty Diablo is one stalker who wont quit. Although I think I should call him Curious George for he has been through every single drawer in the house so far not mentioning the dryer.
This little creature can provide endless entertainment.... just give him a bouncy ball and a rob....FUNNY
I can write forever about cats. Heck I can write forever about his amusement by the TV or the birds outside the window.
I wont though....I dont wanna become that guy at the Pet Food store.

To him I say
NO ONE CARES WHAT UR CAT DID LAST NIGHT. I was stunned by the wackie pink shoes photo on Roba's blog. I decided to take the test and see the RBKs that reflect my style.

Thank God, I got the same wicked shoes in PINK...I really love them...I actually have shoes in that color...
However, something was more alarming to me than the color of the sneakers and the fact that I have no problem wearing them in public...
I went back to the test and checked if they ask participants about gender before taking the quiz.....AND THEY DON'T... no.
So here is a question for the guys....if you take the test and this was the shoes that reflects your style and personality...would you admit that you like those shoes...just a little bit? would anyone wear them at all?
I always thought males should have a problem with wearing pink. Turned out it is not? ( my bro actually claims that males like pink more than females which is why we [women] wear pink a lot!!!)
What do you think?

Best search engine...reccomended by my bro

This is a conversation that went on between me and my 13 years old bro.
